Flying or Driving | How to Get to Big Sky

Big Sky is known for being an outdoor enthusiast’s playground, and for good reason. From world-class skiing once the resort opens at the end of November to being the perfect base camp for a Yellowstone vacation, this popular Montana town is surrounded by adventure. However, before you can enjoy all the fun, you need to take care of a couple of logistical items. One is reserving your rental from Two Pines Properties. The other is figuring out how you’re going to get to Big Sky.

Option 1: Flying

If you’re traveling from afar, your best bet is to catch a flight to Big Sky. The Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is less than 45 minutes from town. Depending on the time of year, there are several nationwide direct flights, so you don’t have to spend all day in airports. Another option is the West Yellowstone Airport, which has seasonal flights from Denver and Salt Lake City.

If you are flying, there are plenty of shuttle services that can get you to and from the airport, including Skyline Bus and Karst Stage. The airport also has several rental car options for those looking to have a car with them for the duration of their vacation. Guests at our Big Sky cabins can enjoy a discount code for a car from Explore Rentals.

Option 2: Driving

Driving to Big Sky is a great way to enjoy a vacation within your vacation. No matter how long of a drive you have, there are sure to be attractions to explore along the way. Take your time to stop at some of these roadside spots to add a bit of extra fun to your vacation. Before heading out, be sure you have a car emergency kit packed, snacks ready, and your favorite playlist queued up.

  2. Since 1970, See Yellowstone has been a go-to option for anyone looking to explore Yellowstone National Park. Make your way to Old Faithful on a roughly eight-hour expedition. There is also an option to drive around the “Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.”
  3. Backcountry Adventures is a family-owned company with a staff that has several years of experience in the West Yellowstone area. There are two trips to Old Faithful a day as well as one trip to the Canyon on Thursdays.

When reserving your trip, be sure to ask about age restrictions to see if your children are old enough to ride on their own or not.

How to Prep for the Elevation and Altitude of Big Sky, Montana

Located 45 miles south of Bozeman rests Big Sky, a town known for its wealth of incredible outdoor adventures. No matter the time of year, there are countless things to do and see, many of which are only a short drive from your Two Pines Properties rental. Experience the beauty of this region hiking, biking, and more. However, before heading out, you need to make sure you are prepared for the elevation and altitude of Big Sky, Montana.

Ways to Stay Safe While Having Fun

Depending on where you are in Big Sky, you can be anywhere from 6,000 to 11,000 feet above sea level. This elevation above sea level can lead to some travelers experiencing altitude sickness.

When exploring at higher elevations, like those in Big Sky, you take in less oxygen per breath, which can lead to health issues. The symptoms of altitude sickness can include weakness, nausea, and trouble breathing.

There are ways to avoid the impact of the higher elevation, many of which are easy and simple to follow.

  • Consider stopping by places like Big Sky Natural Health after checking into your rental for IV therapy treatment. They offer a treatment specifically for the town’s altitude, which can help prevent altitude-related illness.
  • While there’s nothing better sometimes than a cold beer to celebrate the start of your vacation, avoid any type of alcohol for the first two days you arrive.
  • In addition to the tip above, you will want to be cautious about your alcohol consumption during your stay. Alcohol can be dehydrating, and a key to preventing altitude sickness is staying hydrated.
  • To help you stay as hydrated as possible, add electrolytes to your water at least once or twice a day. For some variety, pick up different flavors or other types of electrolyte-rich drinks from a local grocery store.
  • Keep in mind that higher elevation means the sun’s ultraviolet rays are more intense. This means it’s extra important to apply sunscreen and take breaks from the sun to ensure you don’t risk sun poisoning.

Relax at Your Big Sky Rental

The living area of a Big Sky, Montana, rental to recover from the high elevation in.

If you’re not used to the elevation of Big Sky, it’s important to find moments to relax at your Montana rental from Two Pines. Taking time to enjoy the slower pace of vacation is a great way to allow your body a chance to acclimate, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have any fun.

Create a delicious meal in your fully-equipped kitchen, or gather around the dining table for game night. The Big Sky rentals in our collection have everything you need to feel right at home. For more information on which property meets all your wants and needs, call 406-995-2299. We can also answer your questions about ways to save.

Be sure to check out their website for delicious recipe recommendations. This store also has a delivery service, which means they can bring everything you need right to your front door.
  • The Country Market of Big Sky is a family business that has been serving the area for more than five decades. Found in Meadow Village Center, they offer everything from hand-carved meats to fresh fruits and vegetables. You can also stock up on freshly baked goods, beer, and wine.
  • The Hungry Moose Market & Deli has been in operation since 1994. Stop in to browse the aisles filled with grocery staples or to visit the deli. This option has two locations: one in Town Center and another in the Vista Hall at Big Sky Resort.

Before heading out to any of the above grocery stores, check if they offer curbside pickup or delivery! These services make your grocery shopping experience a breeze. Another convenient way to get your groceries is through concierge services. Bo & Co. Home Supply and Big Sky Delivery and Concierge can ensure you have everything, all without having to step outside the door.
